Missing Teeth in Barrie – Is there an alternative to dentures?

Until recently, a common solution to multiple missing teeth has been a complete or partial denture.  But is there a better way?  Recent advances in technology have made new options as an alternative to dentures to replace missing teeth more accessible to most people missing teeth.  These options include crown and bridgework as well as dental implants.

Crown and Bridge

The crown and bridge might be a great option for you if you have generally healthy remaining teeth but are missing one or more.  A crown and bridge is just as it seems.  The “bridge” portion bridges the gap between 2 teeth, replacing 1-2 missing teeth.  The drawback to crown and bridge treatment is the adjacent teeth must be prepped (filed down) to accommodate the crown portion that will hold the bridge in a stable position.  These teeth will anchor the bridge.  Bridgework requires very thorough cleaning as food can get caught in the space between the bridge and the gum tissue.

Dental Implants

A dental implant can replace one or multiple missing teeth, or, 4-6 implants could be placed into each of the arches to attach to dentures.

Dental Implants A dental implant is the next best thing for your natural tooth.  A dental implant provides stability and function in restoring your bite.  The crown of the dental implant is also aesthetically pleasing.  To be a candidate for one or more dental implants, bone quality must first be determined.  Dental implants when attached to an overdenture are a much more stable and functional replacement of missing teeth.
