Covid-19 Safety Measures in Place

We welcome all clients within Barrie and the Simcoe County area for COVID-19 dental emergencies as well as for regular care including dental hygiene. With a greater understanding of the virus and how it can be contained, dentistry has been allowed to continue during all stages of restrictions. While we have always placed safety and infection control as our top priority, Simcoe Family Dentistry has updated safety measures and protocols to ensure the safety of our patients as well as our team during this pandemic. We remain committed to our patients and to our community for COVID-19 emergency dental care during this difficult time.
Hospital grade hepa filtration

Hospital Grade HEPA Filtration

Dr Mikhail has invested in hospital grade HEPA filters in each of the treatment rooms as well as in our reception area. These powerful filters exchange and filter the air in the rooms trapping particles as small as 0.01 microns that may be present in the air. Read more about HEPA filtration.

Enhanced PPE

Our team has been professionally fitted for N95 masks. The tight fit is key to protecting both the mask wearer and the patient from the virus. Gowns, face shields and surgical bonnets are also used as a part of the first line of defense in containing the spread of the virus when generating aerosols.

Ceiling walls and doors

Floor to Ceiling Walls and Doors

Our treatment rooms all have floor to ceiling walls and doors that are closed while a patient is in the chair. After the dental procedure, if aerosols are generated, the room sits for a specific amount of time to “fallow” or allow those particles to settle or clear prior to being cleaned.

UV Lamps

During the room fallow time, which is confirmed by an HVAC specialist and is tailored to the dimensions of the room as well as air changes per hour, we run UV lamps for 15 minutes. These lamps aid in environmental cleaning and disinfection and are becoming more common in medical settings.

COVID-19 dental office Protocols Include:

  • Covid-19 screening will be completed both when the appointment is made and again 2 hours prior to your appointment through a link that will be sent to you by text or email.
  • Our dental forms are all available to be filled and downloaded on our website so you will have less contact with papers in the office.
  • Our entire team performs a daily self-screening prior to coming into the office and we take our temperature every morning.
  • Appointment times are staggered to allow adequate disinfection time as well as to maintain social distancing measures.
  • You must sanitize your hands with our medical grade hand sanitizer prior to entry. Alternatively, you may wash your hands with soap and water in our bathroom sink.
  • Temperature will be checked prior to entry.
  • You will be provided with a pre-procedural rinse with hydrogen peroxide which has been shown to help reduce pathogens in the saliva.

As always, we welcome any questions you may have about the measures we have in place to ensure everyone’s safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are proud of the way our team has come together to ensure we are meeting and exceeding public health recommendations regarding infection control and new protocols. We all feel very safe coming to work each day with the additional safety measures we have in place and making our patients feel just as safe is our primary focus!
