October is National Orthodontic Health Month!

October is National Orthodontic Health Month! Proper alignment of the teeth is vital to overall tooth and gum health and October is the month dedicated to all things ortho related!  At Simcoe Family Dentistry, we are pleased to be able to offer Invisalign Clear Aligners to our patients who require orthodontics due to crowded teeth provided the patient is a good candidate for this type of treatment.  Let’s have a look at how teeth alignment can help with overall good oral health!

  1. Straight teeth are easier to keep clean. When teeth are tipped, turned or overlapped, there is a greater chance for plaque and calculus or tartar to become trapped.  Not only will straighter teeth allow for easier cleaning, but less food will get trapped to begin with!
  2. Less bacteria means your gum health will improve. With less food being trapped and greater ease of cleaning, your gums are bound to become healthier.  We actually see gum health improve within a few weeks of starting Invisalign treatment in most cases.  This initial improvement is largely due to an increase in regular homecare during treatment.
  3. Reduced risk of chipping teeth. When the teeth are in alignment, you have less of a chance of chipping them on the opposing teeth.
  4. Improved chewing function. Straight teeth fit together in a natural way allowing for better chewing function.

Do you have questions about your candidacy for Invisalign treatment?  Perhaps you are worried about plaque and bacteria build up around crooked teeth?  Maybe you would like to improve the look of your smile?  Reach out and ask us how!  Our patients receive the initial appointment at no cost.  We can’t wait to help your oral health and to help you love your smile just in time for National Orthodontic Health Month!
