Dental Insurance Coverage

Dental Insurance 101

Simcoe Family Dentistry is happy to give you a little Dental Insurance 101. Dental insurance is a wonderful thing, with a few caveats, of course! At our Barrie Dental Office we receive inquiries every day about dental insurance and which dental procedures are covered under a particular plan. Unfortunately, the dental insurance industry does not make coverage easy to understand for the average person without a dental background. Our administrative team is here to help! Here is a list of things you should know about dental insurance.

Your Dental Insurance Company Is Not Your Friend.

The job of the agents you speak to is to pay out as little as possible in benefits. They do not care about your oral health and what is best for it. Your Barrie Dentist does NOT make a diagnosis based on insurance coverage, but instead on clinical findings during your exam. Our goal is to improve your oral health and to help you to keep your teeth for your lifetime. We will help you to understand your insurance coverage and we will submit claims electronically on your behalf to make the process convenient.

There Are Too Many Insurance Plans to Count.

Insurance plans are chosen by your employer based on many factors. Each insurance company has many different packages to choose from. Some insurance plans have great dental coverage, some focus more on paramedical coverage or prescriptions.  Usually, cost plays a factor in which insurance plan your employer has chosen. Insurance is meant to supplement the cost to the patient, but only in rare cases does an insurance company cover dentistry at 100%.

Most Insurance Companies No Longer Discuss Patient Coverage with Dental Office Administrators.

It seems over the last few years, there are fewer and fewer representatives answering the phone when we try to contact insurance companies. Many now state that they will not give a dental breakdown of coverage to the dental office but will only discuss coverage with the patient. If you would like to know about your coverage and have a dental breakdown, we are quite happy to help you to decipher what this means in relation to the dental treatment you require to make your teeth and gums healthy.

Have Any Questions? Call Us!

If you have any questions about your dental coverage, our administrative team at Simcoe Family Dentistry are the experts you need to speak to! For our regular patients, we still accept assignment of benefits. This means if you are a patient who comes to us for regularly scheduled exams and hygiene we will send your insurance through electronically and they will reimburse us directly.  The cost to you per appointment will only be the portion your insurance does not cover.

We look forward to seeing you soon at Simcoe Family Dentistry! Your partners in great oral health!
