Hand Washing – Your First Defense Against COVID-19

Hand Washing – Your First Defense Against COVID-19

Most of us have heard it over and over again from childhood – wash your hands! Never has this piece of advice been more important than now. With the pandemic in full swing, the best thing we can do as a society is learn an effective hand-washing technique and implement it often throughout the course of the day.

Tips for effective hand-washing:

Take off any rings.

Dirt and bacteria love to hang out underneath jewelry. Make sure you take any rings off prior to washing, and allow the ring and your finger to dry thoroughly prior to putting them back on.

Lather up in between your fingers.

This is often a spot that is missed when hand-washing.

Don’t skimp on the 20 seconds.

A good trick to ensure you are washing your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds is to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice.

Don’t turn the tap off with your clean hand.

Use the towel you have dried your hands with to turn off the tap and prevent re-contaminating your hands.
